Industrias Químicas del Ebro
IQE is a manufacturer of sodium and potassium silicates, metasilicate, zeolites, sodium aluminates, precipitated silica, aluminium silicate, aluminium sulphate and amorphous aluminium hydroxide. IQE is the parent company of an industrial group (90 million turnover) that is completed by SIMAL S.A. (silicates manufacturing) and DESILSA S.A. (Detergents and derivatives of alkaline silicates) in Spain.
Environmental commitment
IQE’s environmental commitment is strong, being certified in ISO 14001, being a signing member GLOBAL COMPACT of United Nations since 2005 and being awarded with ECOVADIS GOLD Recognition 2019. The company’s management system include a commitment with environmental protection and in the company’s sustainability report also has an entire chapter dedicated to the environment.
R&D department
R&D Department is formed by 7 PhDs in Chemical Sciences, 4 BSc in chemistry and 5 technicians in chemical branch. R&D department carries out activities related to Research, Development of New Products and Processes, and Technical Assistance. Is noteworthy the fully equipped own laboratory and the pilot plants at different scales for the manufacture of precipitated silica.
R&D projects
IQE has wide experience managing R&D projects having participated in more than 12 projects in last decade regarding product and process development. Among them, IQE has coordinated two big projects with more than 4 partners. It is also remarkable the participation of IQE in a European H2020 project (ZEROBRINE), seed project of present LIFE proposal.
IQE, as precipitated silica manufacturer will lead industrial activities piloting the pre-industrial plant and validating technical and economic feasibility and related future business
EURECAT-FUNDACIÓ EURECAT
The Sustainability Area of EURECAT its formed by more than 40 researchers focused on monitoring and developing new processes for improved management of natural resources and improve the sustainability of the human activities.
Sustainability Area
Regarding air technology, it has large experience on the mechanisms involved in air chemistry and extensive equipment for monitoring air pollution in urban and industrial sites, considering both major and trace pollutants.
innovative technologies
It also has experience in new approaches and strategies based on innovative technologies for emissions treatment including advanced separation techniques (membranes, activated carbon, chemical separation, etc.), biological processes and oxidation technologies. The Area has also large experience on monitoring the environmental / social / economic impact of products and activities through the application of LCA/LCC/sLCA methodologies and the implementation of Design-for-Circularity and Circular Economy practises.
membrane technologies
Eurecat is focused in the membrane technology, biological treatments and adsorption processes for water and wastewater. Eurecat researchers have participated in several projects related to membrane technologies including ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis reversal and biological processes.
EURECAT has the required laboratory and bench-scale and analytical facilities to evaluate the performance of biological processes such as bench and pilot scale membrane equipment, respirometry, molecular biology techniques, electronic microscopy, etc. Furthermore, has developed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) studies in different sectors.
Life Zerosilibrine
LIFE ZEROSILIBRINE project is a PILOT PROJECT to apply an innovate technology for the treatment of precipitated silica wastes
